WASHINGTON,DC — NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers, mayor, Avondale, AZ responds to Thursday’s bridge collapse in Washington State:
“Yesterday’s bridge collapse in Washington reminds us of the risk we take when we don’t properly invest in our nation’s infrastructure. For too long, as a nation we’ve neglected to invest in the basic infrastructure of our hometowns.
“The I-5 bridge collapse is yet another reminder that we are not meeting the country’s growing infrastructure needs. Oversight, safety, and repair needs require a strong partnership between all levels of government: federal, state and local. We urge Congress and the Administration to make the nation’s transportation system, and how we finance it, an immediate priority.”
