Cities Attend Conventions Looking for Partners and Federal Leadership that will Address Local Needs

WASHINGTON, DC – As the conventions for the two major parties begin, it is important  – amid all the celebration —  for the nation to focus on the needs of local communities and their residents. City government is the closest to where people live, work and raise their children, and city officials continue to see families suffering from unemployment, underemployment and too few opportunities for advancement.

Local leaders continue to foster innovation and economic development in their communities, but the slow economic recovery still hampers city leaders who were required to respond to the poor economy with deep service cuts. The nation needs Congress to focus on making critical investments in infrastructure and human capital to set the nation on a course for long-term economic success.  The conventions must highlight how each party plans to get the nation working again.

Note:
The National League of Cities leadership will be available to discuss the needs of cities, the state of the nation, the direction of the country and what types of policies and programs Washington should be focused on.
