DALLAS, TX – The City of Dallas Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) -sponsored by the Dallas Office of Emergency Management will join over 300 Community Emergency Response Teams, Neighborhood Associations, Disaster Animal Response Teams and local governments along with community and faith-based organizations from across the United States that are participating in the Formidable Footprint – A National Neighborhood Exercise beginning at 8:30am CST on Saturday, June 30, 2012. The three-hour tabletop event will focus on a tornado scenario and is part of an on-going series of national disaster exercises. In the wake of recent tornado outbreaks, Dallas Office of Emergency Management and CERT officials noted the timely importance of the upcoming event.
“The severe storms and deadly tornados that continue to across the nation and our local area illustrate the ongoing need to be prepared and practiced before the next warnings are posted,” said Cassandra Wallace of the Dallas Office of Emergency Management. “The Formidable Footprint series gives the Dallas CERT program an opportunity to test and review our capabilities so we can support our community should dangerous weather strike.”
The Formidable Footprint series of neighborhood exercises are specifically designed for local organizations such as Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Fire Corps and faith / community based organizations that work to support the disaster caused needs of community and neighborhood residents during and following a disaster.
