WASHINGTON (AA) – President Joe Biden traveled Wednesday to Kentucky after a wave of tornadoes tore through the state last weekend.
Other states, including Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Arkansas have been affected by the powerful storms that hit late Friday into Saturday and killed an estimated 100 people.
The city of Mayfield in Kentucky has been the hardest hit.
Biden met state and local leaders including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan as well as Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear after taking an aerial tour of the city.
“I think the vast majority of Americans know what you’ve been through just watching on television,” said Biden.
He said he told his team to make Kentucky officials aware of all the help available from the federal government.
The death toll stands at 74 as of Tuesday, according to authorities.
At least 14 people were killed in other states where the line of tornadoes struck.
