ISTANBUL (AA) – Canada has been knocked out of the World Cup after suffering a crushing 4-1 loss to Croatia in their Group F match on Sunday.

Canada’s Alphonso Davies broke the deadlock with a header in the second minute, scoring Canada’s first World Cup goal ever.

Croatia leveled the Group F game with a close-range finish from Andrej Kramaric in the 36th minute at Khalifa International Stadium.

After eight minutes, the Croatians took the lead with a right-footed shot at the edge of the penalty arc from Marko Livaja.

Kramaric fired a left-footed shot from the center of the penalty box to make the score 3-1 for Croatia in the 70th minute.

Croatia’s Lovro Majer scored another goal in the stoppage time as the game ended with a 4-1 score.

Canada became the second team to be eliminated from the 2022 World cup.

On Friday, Qatar had been eliminated after a 3-1 loss to Senegal.

Earlier today, in another Group F match, Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal’s goals led Morocco to a 2-0 win over Belgium.

Croatia jumped to the top of the group with four points and Morocco are second with the same points. Belgium are one point behind them while Canada are bottom of the standings without a point.
