BUDAPEST (AA) – Thousands of teachers in Hungary demonstrated Saturday, demanding improvements in working conditions and education reform.
Members of the Teachers’ Democratic Union of Hungary gathered in front of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in the nation’s capital of Budapest and handed over a 9-point petition to the Interior Ministry.
They then marched to Kossuth Square, where the National Assembly is located.
Protesters demanded the government improve working conditions for teachers and changes to the education policy.
Allowing teachers to strike and establishing an Education Ministry were also demands made by the union.
